We are the Sandy Ford Service Rifle Tournament, an NRA sanctioned high power rifle competition sponsored by the Sandy Ford juniors and the Sandy Ford Sportsman's Club located in central Illinois outside the town of Streator. Our course of fire is the National Match Course, it is fired on a 100 yd. range. Reduced targets are used to simulate the full 600 yd. The third stage is 10 rounds rapid fire, in the prone position. The last two stages are fired together they are 20 rounds slow fire, in the prone position loaded one at a time. New Competitor Policy
In the past, new competitors who have never fired a match were allowed to compete for the first time without having to watch a previous match first. This will no longer be the policy. However, I will wave the requirement to watch a match first before competing in certain circumstances. Some of those circumstances could be, but is not limited to:
If a new competitor is familiar with the service rifle he or she will be using and has previously reviewed the "Range Commands" and "Getting Started" sections on our website.
If a new competitor has competed before, or holds a classification in a similar type of competition.
If a new competitor has contacted the Match Director previously (well before the day of the match) and has been approved.
In addition, a new competitor will be expected to have the necessary equipment he or she needs, and to know the rules. They should also arrive early. We are a very helpful community, and a competitor may be able to borrow a needed piece of equipment so that they may compete in their first match, but they should get prior confirmation of said equipment.
This policy change is being made in the interest of and with regards to all competitors who attend. The purpose is to expedite the match and avoid hold-ups on the line and late starts. It is my personal objective to make the Sandy Ford Service Rifle Tournaments an enjoyable experience for both new and regular competitors who attend.
